I saw this post by Janine Partington, who I follow on Instagram, about her project called
Material Appropriation
and thought, mmmm that sounds interesting, so I messaged her and arranged to send her some of my stuff, don’t know what yet, probably buttons, but maybe embroidery ?

I decided to send Janine some of my buttons, I told her they are not precious and she can do to them whatever she wishes. I look forward to the results.
Fast forward to….

I got an exciting message from Janine today…
It’s been almost exactly a year since you sent me your buttons – time flies! Anyway, I’ve been playing with them this month – see below the results. I love the exuberance of your buttons, though did find them a bit of a challenge. I think I got there in the end. It was fun. I hope you like them. I cut them, sanded them, even used the back of one of them (loved those striations).
Here’s what she did with my buttons…
I think they are fantastic, and more than well worth the wait!
I chose the square one (top right) for myself, but I like them all.
It’s so interesting to see someone else’s take on my work.
I have followed Janines project with great interest, I love seeing what she has created, and then the reveal of what she had been sent to work with.
I’ve shared a few below, but there were too many great ones to include , so you can see them all here….

It’s obvious that Janine has put a huge amount of time and effort into this project, and I’d like to say thank you for allowing me to take part.
I love collaborations, and this is a really interesting one.
Also, thank you for a new (to me) word : striations
Magic!
Brilliant!
