In a previous blogpost I asked how you felt about using real photos of real life people in artworks. Nobody responded, so I’m taking that to mean no-one has any strong feelings either way. I’ve decided I am going to try and include them in my artwork, see how it goes.
In one of the Facebook groups I’m in , one of the other members posted photos of a collage she had made using old wedding photos that she had kept for years. She said it felt a bit wrong cutting them up, but better than leaving them in a box. I thought what she created was great and respectful and it gave me the encouragement to use them in my work.
I told Jane that I liked what she had done, and asked if I could send her some of my photographs to use in her work. She said yes please, one thing lead to another and we agreed to do a collaboration. We prepared a background for each other to work on and selected 6 pieces that the other one has to choose 1 piece from. We will also both include one of the old photographs, and the theme is to be the 60’s.
Here’s what Jane sent me..
And she prepared this background for me, it’s a work of art in itself before I add anything ..
Here’s what I sent Jane..
and I prepared this background for her to add to…
I will report back when the collaboration is done.

I let out an actual woohoo when I got a notification that someone on Flickr had included one of my photos in this fantastic album

When I explained my outloud woohoo to my other half Steve he asked if there was a similar showcase for my repetitive jokes.

All the best for 2020 to all my blog readers , I know that reading a blog post takes more effort than skimming Facebook posts and I appreciate you taking the time , I really do.
I have started off the year by losing my voice, I’d like to say it was due to raucous carousing on Hogmanay , but it had started to go before that, so it’s more likely to be due to the sore throat I had, or maybe a touch of laryngitis. Whatever the cause it’s put a stop to my repetitive jokes, so it’s a Happy New Year for Steve.
I wrote here about a postcard collaboration I did with Monique that had still not arrived with me a month after being posted from Germany. Happily my faith restored in the postal system, it finally came.
However, she had already kindly sent a replacement card, and it has also arrived. She got a Gelli Plate for Christmas and made the background for the card with it. I must say I am very tempted to get one myself.
We are planning a further collaboration soon, I’ll keep you posted.
More exciting post today, another collaboration I’m taking part in has arrived and I have to add to it and then post it on to someone else.
This is it with 2 peoples contributions, the first one fixed a napkin with gel medium then painted over it with watercolour. The second person then painted the awnings, tables, umberellas and flowers.
I can use any medium for my additions, what do you think I should add? My first thought was to add some handstitching, but that would interfere with the writing on the other side. Open to ideas!
Jane Chipp has used a couple more of the old photos I sent her, this one on a journal page..
And another one on the front of a junk journal, you can see the inside of it here its for sale in her Etsy shop Willow Blue Vintage
In other postcard related news, I sent this card as part of a Swapbot swap on the theme : Monochromatic Gold
I received this one on the same theme..
It even had a gold stamp, nice attention to detail..
And last but not least, this lovely textile postcard arrived , not as part of a swap, but as a festive greeting 🙂
Thanks for including my pieces of work. Very interesting blog!
Thanks Jane, I’m looking forward to our collaboration 🙂
How about a few collaged people o to the post card, the cafe looks a bit empty
