delicious pebblicious…

Now the nights are drawing in and the leaves are beginning to turn my mind turns once more to collaboration.
It’s been more than 2 months since the last one finished, and I am only now getting round to blogging it. Summer got in the way, I guess.
Myself and 9 other members of a textile group on Facebook took turns to contribute to some felt covered pebble* shapes that were kindly made by a member of the group.
*No actual pebbles were harmed in the making of this collaboration, they are pebble shapes made with polyester wadding and covered in wool using the wet felting method.

The pebbles were divided into 2 groups and  sent to participants at different stages of completion. So, for example, the person who was the first to contribute to “set A” might be 6th to contribute to “set B”.  I think doing it like that adds interest to the project.

Here is the journey of “set A” pebbles in photographic form.

They started off like this..

and I did this to 4 of them, leaving the 5th untouched.

I then posted them to Deborah Collum who added this…

She then sent them to Sandra Shiel who made her contributions…

They then went to Gemma Bee..

Gemma then forwarded them to Helen Miles..

Next up was Janette Smith..

and henceforth to Jane Holt..

onwards to Judith Clarke..

who posted them to Karen Teal

and finally they ended up with Ruth Zanoni.

Meanwhile “Set B” were heading in a different direction.
Here they are in their unadorned state.

First to have a go was Helen Miles..

next up was Janette Smith..

who sent them to Jane Holt..

then they went to Judith Clarke..

who sent them to Karen Teal..

onwards they went to Ruth Zanoni..

and Ruth sent them to me..

I then sent them to Deborah Collum..

who posted them to Sandra Shiel..

and last but not least they arrived with Gemma Bee.

Photographing the pebbles was a challenge, they didn’t balance easily, and we had to employ various props to get them to sit at the correct angle. The gold ringring used by Gemma Bee is the belt belonging to a  doll of Wonder Woman, or perhaps Merida from “Brave”. Well improvised, Gemma 🙂

When  the pebbles ended up back with me I tried to take 360 degree photos of them to show all of the contributions, I hope I managed to do them justice, but I must add that in person they had the added delight of texture and squishiness.

And a group photo as a finale, taken before they headed to their forever homes, one for each participant, chosen by random selection.
This was such a fun project, I really enjoy seeing everyones contributions, and it’s intriguing to see how the next persons additions relate to what has been added previously.
There’s a storm howling outside, Autumn is on it’s way, and I can feel a new collaboration hatching, bring it on!

    1. Hi Jo.
The dandelion clock and its seeds were embroidered over the top of a little bit of white needle felting.
      The word wish was embroidered.

  5. Such a beautiful end result.

  6. I cried when I saw these – the pure joy and playfulness emanating from them – oh how i wish I was part of such a magic circle of playfulness!

  7. Where did you get the variegated felt and the two figures perched atop one of the pebbles? These are so playful. Thank you for sharing!

    1. I think the variegated felt is created by choosing different colours of fibres. The two figures were salvaged from an old burst pincushion that I had.

      1. I have the same pincushion 🙂

  8. These are delightful. I bet they were thrilled to travel from place to place and get dressed up “to the nines” while visiting different artists. Thanx for posting
