odd bodkins

12/1/22
That would be a good name for a band “The Odd Bodkins”.
I came across these in my workshop, whilst looking for something else entirely.
No idea where they came from, I don’t recall buying them.

The all silver one is a “binding type bodkin” which can be used to feed elastic through casing, , or any flat ribbon. It made me think of my pal Val who makes the most amazing crochet garments threaded with lengths of fabric.

The one with the red tip is a “head type bodkin” for “fairly fine elastic string”.
Hmmm, that’d work with fancy yarn, methunk.
Now what could I weave it through?
Then I remembered this cardigan that I bought on ebay, for myself but have never worn.
So bland it blends into the background. It could do with cheering up, no?

Almost every day for the last month I have woven one or two lengths of fancy yarn through the holes in the cardigan.
I’m almost at the bottom, although stupidly I didn’t deal with the ends as I went , so I’ll have to go back and sort them all out.

I have to decide now whether to do the whole thing : the upper body, sleeves, front ?
It would be fun, but it would take me so long that it would have to charge a lot for it .
It’s the kind of thing I would have done back in the days when I was still doing craft fairs, I would have hung it on my mannequin at the front of the stall as an attention grabber.
I might compromise and just do the collar. And a wee bit round the cuffs.

Lovely day today, so I thought I could sit outside in the sunshine and do a bit more, but of course I have lost the bloomin’ bodkin!

So, it’s 5 months later.
I did find the bloomin bodkin, I’d only gone and put it in my needle case, whodda thunk to look there!
I finished the bottom and did a wee bit on the front, voila…

I have another jumper that might be good for this treatment…

….. and I’ll give it a go as soon as I relocate the bodkin 🙂
